about this series

lissoms xyz series is a listener-led vinyl run created by me, edmondson. it's a sub-label of lissoms, which i started in south-east london in 2015. i'm a producer, dj and sound designer based in newcastle upon tyne who has been making music for almost 2 decades. my music has been played everywhere from bbc radio 1 to berghain, and supported by artists across the sonic spectrum including ltj bukem, ben ufo & many more.

more people than ever are listening — 100k+ monthly on spotify alone, no official playlisting — yet i've never felt more disconnected from it all. streaming platforms have given us reach but flattened the experience into an abstracted and passive one.

over the last few years i've been stockpiling some more rugged clubby tracks with a vague plan to start a new alias or do a run of white label 12"s. but the traditional release cycle has started to feel hollow: spend months working alone, release a record, refresh numbers on a screen for a week, repeat. i want to try something new.

i love making records, and i want to do it more often. having your phone buzz in the pub because someone over the ocean bought three of your records is a wonderful feeling.

this model shortens the cycle - from idea to studio to vinyl - to weeks, not months/years. it creates regular & reciprocative engagement with the audience, not only giving them a preview of what you're working on but allowing them to actively shape the outcome.

rather than endlessly tweaking things into oblivion & adding to the mountain of 'what ifs' on the hard drive, it provides finish lines for projects while they're still fresh & exciting.

the music scene needs innovation, not replication. this is my attempt at something different.

final note: this is an experiment - there'll likely be some fine-tuning along the way & finished tracks may differ slightly from these clips. i'll also still be making and releasing music through traditional avenues, playing gigs, and hopefully gaining the inspiration to finally finish an album.

but right now, this feels like the most exciting way to share some new tunes. let's see what happens.
